The Colourful Journey of Suraiya

In the lively town of Kotla Jam in Bhakkar, Suraiya, a compassionate woman, discovered a new chapter in her life when approached by Sobia, a mobiliser of Bedari. Sobia invited her to a two-day tie-and-dye workshop, sparking excitement and uncertainty in Suraiya.

With Sobia's encouragement, Suraiya embarked on a creative journey, immersing herself in the vibrant world of colours and knots. As the workshop unfolded, Suraiya mastered the art of tie-and-dye and found new confidence and self-belief. Grateful for the opportunity, she carried her vibrant creations and the lessons learned, adding a splash of colour to her life and inspiring those around her.

Before joining the workshop, Suraiya was occupied with household chores and worked in other households. She completed her secondary school education and is married.

Due to her husband’s ill health, she did not have an opportunity to earn an income and had to work in other households to feed her own family and make ends meet. This situation broke her confidence.

After completing her tie-and-dye skills training, she also attended financial literacy training. Bedari linked her with the Akhuwat Bank in Pakistan, and she obtained a small loan with an easy repayment instalment plan. This allowed her to start her business.

Suraiya said, "I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the workshop and discover my creative potential.”

When asked if there was any evidence of Suraiya’s newfound confidence, the Bedari team stated, “Yes, Suraiya's active participation in the workshop, mastery of tie-and-dye techniques and her proud display of vibrant creations serve as clear evidence of her newfound confidence and belief in her abilities.”
